Bulldogs Museum & Heritage Program

“The history of the Bulldogs and the stories that are passed down about the different people and characters are so inspiring. These stories are brought together in the Museum. There’s a cliché that you don’t know where you’re going ‘til you know where you’ve been. The new Museum gives people a grounding in what’s come before. I think it enriches younger generations who will come through and experience the Bulldogs heritage. They can touch it and feel it, instead of just reading about it in history books. I think it brings the people in, and it’s nice to have the space to store our next ten premierships.”

Through donations to the Forever Foundation, the dream of a Bulldogs Museum is now a reality.

As part of the Whitten Oval Redevelopment, a Museum to commemorate the history of the Footscray Football Club/ Western Bulldogs has being established on the ground floor of the John Gent Stand. The Bulldogs Museum is the custodian of our material culture and social memory and showcases the history of the Club since its inception in 1883.

Housing invaluable knowledge about the people and ideas that have shaped our unique Club, the Museum is accessible to the whole community. The history of the club is told through objects that interpret the past and present – as well as exploring the future.

The Forever Foundation has raised over $70,000 toward the Museum project, and ongoing support is required to maintain it.  All donations over $2 to the project through the Sports Development Fund are tax deductible. Anyone who donates  $1,000 or over will become a Patron of the Museum and will receive a patron badge, a Certificate of Appreciation and their name displayed on the Honour Board in the Bulldogs Museum.

How the Foundation Supports the Bulldogs Heritage

“As we pass on the Dogs’ tradition, generation after generation, we have a responsibility to hold on to our heritage”

- Peter Hudson, Chairman, Forever Foundation

The Forever Foundation works with the Club to preserve the rich history of the Western Bulldogs, and ensure the important social and professional network of past players and officials is maintained. The Foundation’s heritage committee oversees:

  • The Western Bulldogs Museum and Hall of Fame,

  • An information base of past Bulldogs and preserving Bulldog memorabilia from years gone by.

  • Continued archiving of our Club’s history, as it’s made.

  • The second volume of the Bulldogs’ book, “Historical Players Register”

To make a donation to the heritage committee’s archive, or merely to bring something to the committee’s attention, call (03) 9680 6124 or send an email to info@foreverfoundation.com.au

The Bulldogs Forever Foundation has funded production of volumes one and two of The Bulldog Heritage Historical Players Register.  These books feature the stories of over 150 players of the Footscray/Western Bulldogs Football Club.

The stories come from players who played for the Club and wore the Red, White and Blue jumper at under 19, reserve or senior level.  All of the stories are unique but together they combine to give readers an understanding of what it was like to be part of the Club across the eras.

The books are a must read, not only for all Bulldogs supporters, but for all who are interested in AFL.

Donations to the Sport Development Fund have support the production of the Bulldog Heritage books.
